Welcome to the Lost Garden of Penicuik
THE LOST GARDEN OF PENICUIK IS CURRENTLY CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC
The Lost Garden of Penicuik was a community project to restore the Upper Walled Garden of the Penicuik House Estate in Midlothian, Scotland and to grow fruit and vegetables there for the local community. The garden was originally created around 1877 and was a productive vegetable, fruit and flower garden for many years. About 50 years ago it fell into disuse.
The Penicuik Community Development Trust took a long lease of the Garden in February 2012 with the objective of restoring the old buildings and returning the garden to health and productivity.
Local people and many others from different corners of the world have worked hard in the garden since 2012 and made lots of progress.
In late March 2019, the lease of the Lost Garden was relinquished. The Penicuik House Group requested this in order to restore the garden themselves. In return they are providing land for a new community garden. Watch this space for further information about the new garden.
